چکیده

By exclusion then, it seems that the main cause of brain infarcts may be sudden vascular occlusion and not stenosis. Most of the occlusions may be caused by thromboemboli, as suggested previously." However, it should be noted that some of the occlusions may be caused primarily by rupture of atherosclerotic plaques, which are easily overlooked when secondary thrombosis has occurred. Furthermore, many of the vascular occlusions in the deep-seated small infarcts of hypertensive subjects apparently are caused by degenerative changes in the vascular walls and not by primary thrombi.

Distribution of cardiac output in dogs during intravenous infusion of betahistine.

Cardiac output (CO), arterial blood pressure (ABP), heart rate (HR), blood gases and blood flow (BF) to the brain, heart, kidney and skeletal muscles and other cephalic tissues in five dogs were studied before and at 30 minutes of betahistine infusion (0.12 to 0.2 mg per minute per kilogram). The particle distribution method using radioactive labeled 141Ce (15 mu) and 85Sr (15 mu) microspheres ...

Hypertension induced by prolonged intracoronary administration of dobutamine in conscious dogs.

1. In order to determine if a sustained increase in cardiac output can lead to hypertension, seven conscious dogs were given a continuous infusion of dobutamine, a powerful stimulant of cardiac inotropism, into the left coronary artery for a 7 day period while arterial pressure, cardiac output (electromagnetic flowmeter) and heart rate were measured. 2. The infusion technique (1-5 x 10~ mol min...

Cardiovascular effects of atrial natriuretic factor in anesthetized and conscious dogs.

Atrial natriuretic factor lowers blood pressure in normotensive and hypertensive animal models. The present study examined the mechanism of the blood pressure-lowering effect in 10 normotensive dogs. Four awake dogs previously instrumented with electromagnetic flow probes for measurement of cardiac output and catheters for systemic hemodynamic and cardiac dynamic measurements were studied. Afte...

Effect of acute intravenous administration of isoproterenol on cardiorenal hemodynamics in man.

By the direct Fick, or the indocyanine-green or both, methods and by renal clearance of inulin and para-aminohippurate (PAH), simultaneous cardiorenal hemodynamic observations were made before and during isoproterenol infusion (0.9-2.6 micrograms/min) into three patients without, and 10 patients with, heart disease. Although a consistent increase in cardiac output (11 to 147%) was noted in all ...

Quantification of baroreceptor influence on arterial pressure changes seen in primary angiotension-induced hypertension in dogs.

We studied the role of the sino-aortic baroreceptors in the gradual development of hypertension induced by prolonged administration of small amounts of angiotensin II (A II) in intact dogs and dogs with denervated sino-aortic baroreceptors. Short-term 1-hour infusions of A II(1.0-100 ng/kg per min) showed that conscious denervated dogs had twice the pressor sensitivity of intact dogs. Long-term...
